It is
important to be aware that there is a continually developing and
expanding body of knowledge related to each of these difficulties.
The definitions available to you when your child was first assessed
may have radically changed. It is important to keep up to date with
research and findings and reassess the learning programme for your
child accordingly.
For example:
It is becoming universally recognised that Dyslexia is more than
a difficulty with reading and writing. Dealing with dyslexia affects
many other aspects of a student’s life such as focus and concentration,
time keeping and organizational skills. Many of these difficulties
are a result of steadily diminishing self-confidence due to the
individual nature of each dyslexic students learning needs. With
early assessment procedures these needs can be recognised and the
student trained to creatively address those needs within a classroom
structure.
